Keeping Ill Children Home
For the protection of all children and in accordance with Minnesota Statute 9503.0080, parents must keep children at home, or a child will be sent home, if any of the following exist:
- contagious illness or condition
- chicken pox until the child is no longer infectious or until the lesions are scabbed over
- vomited two or more times during the day
- three or more abnormally loose stools during the day
- contagious conjunctivitis or pus draining from the eye
- bacterial infection such as streptococcal pharyngitis or impetigo and has not completed 24 hours of antimicrobial therapy
- unexplained lethargy
- lice, ringworm or scabies that is untreated and contagious to others
- 101°F (100°F axillary) or higher temperature of undiagnosed origin before fever reducing medication is given
- must be fever free for 24 hours (in absence of fever reducing medication) before returning to school
- undiagnosed rash attributable to a contagious illness or condition
- suffering from significant respiratory distress
- unable to participate in child care program activities with reasonable comfort
- requires more care than the program staff can provide without changing the nature of the program or compromising the health and safety of the other children
Parents must notify the school within 24 hours of the onset of a contagious disease.
